Home-        Why I do what I do.

As an Maternity RN of 12 years I would occasionally have parents ask me as they were walking out the door "Can't you just come home with us?"  Although we would make light of it and chuckle, I knew they were half serious.  Then I thought to myself - I know parents get follow up phone calls and home visits during the day, but what about at night when they are feeling worried, frustrated, overwhelmed and/or exhausted? Where is the support they desperately need then?

My vision of helping mothers and babies at home is a natural extension of what I did in the hospital.  They have helping hands for 1-2 days in the hospital and then they are on their own at home.  While some parents are fortunate enough to have relatives who can assist mom and baby - it is usually during the day doing chores such as laundry, cooking and watching over other children.  While this is also extremely valuable, I can't help but think - what about when they leave for the night? What about if the baby won't feed or the baby is extremely fussy and mom and dad aren't sure if something is wrong?  What about if there are suddenly breastfeeding difficulties? And of course - what about necessary sleep to function?

I feel that mothers should have the option of overnight and last minute care for themselves and their newborns when things are at their hardest.  There are lots of wonderful resources to help mothers during the day, but it seems services are lacking at night or when one desperately needs it NOW.  I offer mothers information, support, breastfeeding assistance, guidance, encouragement and newborn care so they can get some sleep while developing confidence in their mothering and breastfeeding abilities (if applicable).

The above reasons were the initial drive to start Mothering Moon's Successful Beginnings Services.  But this is just the start of how my passions and abilities can assist women, babies and families.  Read more About Me and check out My Services  page for more information about my current and upcoming services.
