  Home -   Why I do what I do. During my 12 years of hospital Maternity Nursing, care for expectant, birthing and postpartum families became more and more medicalized and less and less patient focused. I increasingly felt torn between providing families with the time and support they actually needed and what my clinical responsibilities were to the hospital. Becoming a doula has allowed me to put families first and individualize support according to their unique needs. My education, knowledge and experience allow me to serve not only pregnant and birthing women, but also to support mothers and babies as they transition into a new life together as separate individuals. Families I work with appreciate the consistency that comes from one person who can support them uninterrupted through these very important life transitions and events.
