Why the Moon?
Overnight Postpartum Doula in Maine (ME) & NH : A look into why I chose the name Mothering Moon.
I
chose the name “Mothering Moon” to represent me
because the moon is symbolic of feminine energy AND
because maternal instinct and feminine know-how are
the qualities of the Moon Goddess.
The Moon rules the Fourth House, the House of home and family
and the energy of Cancer, which is the Sign of nurturing and
mothering. Since parents nurture and shape one's being,
the Fourth House can also be thought of as the House of the
Mother, the Parent, or the Nurturer.
The Moon has been associated with the passive side of women, but
the moon also exerts tremendous power as it controls the tides in the
oceans and the cycles in women's bodies. Women, however possess the
most powerful force of all -- the ability to give birth.
At
the very least - the moon throws a comforting night light all
over the planet including on mothers and others nurturing babies
in the middle of the night. |
